Youlia Tkatchouk was born in Lviv, Ukraine. A graduate of the Department of Monumental Art from Lviv Academy of Fine Arts, she studied under renowned set designer Evhen Lysyk, the main artist of the Lviv Opera Theatre.
She works in many different genres and mediums: paintings, drawings, sculpture, mosaics, installations, and paper cutting. Her art is strongly related to organic forms that recall earth, water, and sky.
Youlia’s work can be found in myriad public and private art collections both in the United States and abroad. Her installation “Trialogue” won Best in Show for the 2008 Mosaics Art International – SAMA 2008 and the prestigious Prism Award–Institutional from Coverings 2008.
Currently, she lives and works in Chicago, USA.
Contemporary life is full of contrasts, and my art helps me be oblivious of the world, happy, and feel my surroundings.
I strive to create organically balanced compositions that exude peace and harmony. The shapes and images in my art have a fluidity that awakes the sense of earth, water and sky or soul, body and mind.
I love fearless experiments in large or small scales, techniques and mediums. For me, art is intuitive process, exploring and trying new materials, its texture, pattern, details, spontaneous creation where everything is possible and welcome. I remain fascinated by every little plant, star in the sky, and sound of water.
I enjoy challenges. Complicated work with smalti, stone, glass, acrylic, oil, foam, wood, gold leaf, and paper. It helps me to express the ideas creatively from a different perspective.
